Whitney Houston, famous U.S. singer and actress, died today in the United States aged 48.
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born on August 9, 1963 in East Orange, New Jersey, United
States.

As a child, Houston sang in a church choir and was quite a successful fashion model in her youth.
In 1983 Houston signed a contract with Arista Records and four years later received the first Grammy award for her single "Saving All My Love For You" from her first solo album "Hold Me." Photo: Whitney Houston at the 2000 Grammy Awards ceremony.

Also in 1987, she released her single "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and her album Whitney was the first album by a female artist to debut as number one in the U.S. music charts.

A year later, Whitney made her debut in the feature film "The Bodyguard." Four songs, which Whitney recorded for the film, made a good soundtrack while the cover version of Dolly Parton's hit "I Will Always Love You" spent 14 weeks at the top of U.S. music charts
Her most famous single "I Will Always Love You" ranked number 8 on VH1's 100 Best Songs of the Past 25 Years and number one of the 100 Greatest Country Love Songs.
Houston released seven studio albums, a lot of CDs and DVD-albums, and also three soundtracks for the films "The Bodyguard," "Waiting to Exhale" and "The Preacher's Wife."
Houston was included in the Guinness Book of World Records as music's most awarded female artist. She is the holder of over 400 awards, including six Grammy awards, 21 American Music awards, two Emmy awards, 15 Billboard Music Awards, six People's Choice and other awards. In 1992 Whitney Houston married New Edition singer Bobby Brown and in 1993 gave birth to their daughter Bobbi Kristina.
